Cactus leather, chocolate face masks, and vanilla candles
This is a new feature for paid subscribers only - I wanted to give a little bonus to all you generous readers who pay for my work. The Kind List will be a monthly feature which will go to paid subscribers every first Tuesday of the month with recommendations, which can be everything from vegan fashion, cruelty-free beauty, interesting new books on ethical living and social justice, petitions to sign, and more!
It’s World Vegan Month! November is one of the darkest months of the year, but it’s one I’ve come to like because of all the vegan content and campaigns popping up - it’s become a 30-day celebration of all things vegan, which is just super neat. For me personally, this is shaping up to be another full-on month - no surprises there. I’m looking forward to a few of my guest lectures at universities, but also to a nice walk with a couple of friends who are dog-sitting, and going to London to attend the Stylist Live event, not to mention getting together with some London friends. Plus, writing my novel (obviously). And let’s be honest, I’ll probably clock up even more hours watching Lost on Netflix (how did I not watch it the first time around? How?? Well, better late than never!) as well as finishing Coco Mellors’ Cleopatra and Frankenstein (recommend).
But I’ll also take advantage of the darker days to slow down. My body has been telling me recently that it needs a break, and I have such a hard time listening. One of my goals for this month is to get back into yoga, which I’ve paused due to a rotator cuff inflammation (those things take forever to heal!) but I’m finally easing my way into it again. I have to accept that, for the time being, I’m not quite ready to return to my weekly 1.5 hour-long Strong Vinyasa class yet, but hey, I can hold three breaths in Downward-Facing Dog without excruciating pain, so that’s a start. And yes, I’m back to “knees-chest-chin” instead of the fancy Chaturanga I so prided myself on having achieved. Nothing like an injury to humble you - but also remind you that slowing down is not only okay, it is much needed sometimes. Leslie Stephens speaks so well about slowing down and why it’s necessary. Anne Boyd recently also reminded me of why relaxing is essential. Yoga does help me quieten that frantic energy - so it’s something I’ll be focusing on bringing back into my life this month.
But enough about my adventures on the mat - here are the things I recommend this World Vegan Month!
